WHO Reports Fake Meds Are Global Problem

“1 in 10 medical products in developing countries is substandard or falsified” states the World Health Organization (WHO) in a November 2017 report. An analysis of 100 peer-reviewed surveys on medicine quality from 2007 to 2016 across 88 countries has led the WHO to conclude that counterfeit medications are a global public health threat.

The extent of the existence of both local and online sources of these fake, harmful, or even deadly products is not new. What is new is that since 2013, the WHO has started tracking the data. With that evidence, comes the ability to further identify strategies for protecting families around the globe.
